Your data, in plain words

What we keep, why, who else touches it, and how to delete all of it.

Last updated November 8, 2026

  • Only what the app needsYour account, your words, and how well you know them.
  • No ads, no sellingWe don't sell your data or follow you across other apps and sites.
  • Delete it yourselfEverything, from inside the app, in a minute.

Who we are

Word, please is made by Alona Sheiko, under the name yavno. Questions about your data go to hi@yavno.ooo.

What we keep

Your account

  • Your email, to sign you in with a one-time code and to send you a backup of your words.
  • With Sign in with Apple: the name and email Apple gives us. With "Hide My Email", we only ever see Apple's relay address.
  • The name you show in the app, and a picture if you add one.

Your learning

  • The words and phrases you add, your packs, and anything you write yourself.
  • Your answers to each card and when you gave them. That's how the app knows when to bring a word back.
  • Your settings: languages, session length, reminder time.

To keep you signed in and the server safe

  • For each signed-in device: its IP address and device type, to keep you signed in and to stop abuse.

Your plan

  • Whether you're on Free or Local, and until when. Apple takes the payment; we never see your card.

What stays on your phone

  • Your voice. Your iPhone turns what you say into text with Apple's speech recognition. We get the text, never the recording. Apple may process the audio under its own policy.
  • The voice reading words aloud is your iPhone's own.
  • Reminders are set on your phone. No server sends them.
  • Your clipboard is read only when you tap "Paste". If you paste a link, our server opens that page to show you its text.

Who else touches it

A few services do part of the work. Each gets only what that work needs.

  • OpenAI makes the card for a word you add. It gets the word and the two languages, not your name or email.
  • Resend sends our emails: sign-in codes and backups. It gets your email address.
  • Apple handles Sign in with Apple, payments and speech recognition.
  • RevenueCat tells us which plan you're on. It gets your purchases and a random account number, not your name or email.
  • Our own server keeps everything above. Nobody else reads it.

What others can see

Nothing, unless you share a pack. Then other learners see its name, its words and the name you show in the app. Make it private again, and it's gone from the list.

How long we keep it

  • As long as you have an account.
  • A word or pack you delete stays for 24 hours so "Undo" works, then it's gone.
  • Delete your account, and everything goes at once. The last trace leaves our nightly copies within 14 days.

Your rights

  • See it. Profile → Backup emails you all your words as a spreadsheet.
  • Fix it. Change any translation, name or setting in the app.
  • Delete it. Profile → Account → Delete account. If you signed in with Apple, we ask Apple to forget the link too.
  • Ask us. For a full copy, a question or a complaint, write to hi@yavno.ooo. We answer within 30 days, usually much sooner.

In the EU and the UK, the GDPR gives you these rights, and you can also complain to your data protection authority. We use your data to give you the app you signed up for, and to keep it secure.

Children

Word, please isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly keep their data.

Changes

If this page changes in a way that matters, the app tells you before it takes effect.

Still have a question?

A real person reads every email. We usually answer within two working days.
